School for Porters
Partnering with the Chikima Foundation we have built a school in Mbahe ward on Mt. Kilimanjaro where we offer free English lessons to the porters. Porters often drop out of school at age 17 to work on the mountain where they earn about fifty cents a day, which is considered a good paying job. Teaching the porters English will allow them to correspond and communicate with tourists they work with on the mountain which may lead to someone supporting them in continuing their education. The young man in the sixth photo is Adam with his younger brother Benjamin. I met Adam when I volunteered my first trip. Adam dropped out of school to work on the mountain, which really bothered me because he was a good student! Tony and I now sponsor Adam in his college education. If yo are interested in sponsoring one of the porters on Mt. Kilimanjaro please let me know so I can connect you!
